Welcome to the Dresden Football Museum

bild02

On the 12th of May 2006 the Dresden Football Museum opened its doors to the public for the first time. For over 20 years Jens Genschmar had been collecting exibits showing the history and development of football in Dresden. Located in the center of the capital of Saxony, on the Hauptstraße, the Museum now holds an exhibition of cups won at competitions, the shirts of many populer Dynamo players, tickets to fascinating games, pennants and flags from over 100 years of passion.

The Museum includes popular clubs such as the SG Dynamo Dresden, and its predecessors the SV Deutsche Volkspolizei Dresden, Rotation Dresden, SC Einheit Dresden, the FSV Lok Dresden. The Museum also shows larger teams like the Dresdner SC, Fußballring Dresden, Sportfreunde 01 Dresden and the Dresdner SV Guts Muts. It has set up memorials to important events such as the “Deutscher Meistertitel”, cup matches, and the unexpected achievements of Dynamo Dresden in the European Cup from 1973-1991, but has not forgetten smaller clubs like the Dresdner SG 1893, Wacker Leuben-Dresden, the Strehlener BC, the SV Brandenburg 01 Dresden and the FV Sachsen Dresden, the SV Dresdensia Dresden, the VfB 03 Dresden, the Arbeiterverein Dresdner SV 1910 and the Dresdner SV 06 Laubegast. The Museum gives a wide range of facts, events, and memories of a passion that unites much of the world’s population.

The Museum also deals with the history of the German National Team, international competitions and cups. Including many Dresden players and couches, such as Richard Hofmann, Ulf Kirsten, Hans-Jürgen Dörner, Helmut Schön, Matthias und Klaus Sammer, Hans-Jürgen Kreische, Ralf Minge, Walter Fritzsch and the first German national player Arno Neumann. They all played a role in the success of German football.

The Museum is always looking for new exhibits that could complete the already very large collecting with items such as old pictures, programs, shirts and other artefacts that show the development of the sport in Germany.
